It’s early January, and it’s already started, the relentless advertising for diet plans and fitness programs. All we’re hearing about are New Year’s Resolutions. I’m sure you’ve thought about making one. Maybe the same one you’ve made every year. But somehow, they never get achieved.

I don’t make new years resolutions because I know I won’t follow them through. When I was younger I made one each year. An empty promise to myself to achieve a particular goal. I talked about it for the first 3 weeks of the year, and then forgot about it. Can you relate?

Are you so fed up with what you see in the mirror AND how tired you feel? Maybe you’ve made a resolution to do something about your health and fitness.  The thing is, an empty promise won’t get you anywhere. It will just make you feel guilty for not seeing it through.

So, here’s a new approach for 2017: instead of telling yourself – “I’m going to get skinny this year”, replace this with: “I don’t want to feel like this anymore, so I’m making some changes. I will make small changes, starting today, that I will continue to do forever.” Instead of thinking in terms of a 3-month plan, look at weight loss as a long-term healthy lifestyle you can adopt for the rest of your life.

Expensive and extreme diets and fitness plans may help you lose weight initially, but most people gain the weight back soon after. Why put yourself through that? Why not take the common sense approach and make gradual changes that you can sustain, then lose the weight slowly AND keep it off?

You can’t change your life in 3 months…actually you can! If you use the first 3 months to make realistic changes that you can stick to and fit into your lifestyle. This way you will see positive change over time as your body re-programs itself – with the long-term result of more health, fitness and energy.

One of the best ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to have a coach walking by your side, supporting you to make small realistic changes tailored specifically to your lifestyle.
